Singapore, May 11 (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc started a visit to Singapore on May 10 as the 48th guest of Singapore’s “Friends of Lee Kuan Yew” programme.

The programme regularly invites Vietnamese leaders, officials and experts to share their experience of the development of Vietnam as well as bilateral relations.

During his meeting with Chairman of the programme, Eddie Teo, who is also Chairman of Singapore’s Public Service Commission, the two men expressed delight at the growing bilateral ties in all fields, ranging from politics and trade to education and people-to-people meetings.

Deputy PM Phuc described Singapore as a symbol of success in Asia and a successful model of corruption prevention and control as well as transparent and effective governance, with a deeply integrated economy and strong national cultural identity and sense of community.

He noted that Vietnam is drastically implementing strategic measures to make the country an industrialised and modernised nation soon. During this process, administrative and legal reform as well as anti-corruption efforts will be made to improve national competitiveness and mobilise domestic and foreign resources for the country’s international economic growth and integration, he said. Singapore is a trustworthy partner that Vietnam should learn from in this field, he added.

For his part, Eddie Teo lauded the socio-economic achievements of Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese Government’s efforts in maintaining politic stability and social order and security and sustaining economic growth of up to 6 percent.

He affirmed that Singapore always prioritises cooperation with Vietnam and is ready to provide the country with technical support and assistance in personnel training, while sharing experience in areas where it is strongest.
