Ceremony for first election anniversary slated for January 6

Hanoi, January 4 (VNA) – A ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s first General Election Day (January 6) is scheduled for January 6 at the National Assembly Hall in Hanoi, deputy head of the NA Office Nguyen Si Dung told a press conference on January 4.

Attending the event will be leaders of the Party, State, NA, Vietnam Fatherland Front, cities and provinces nationwide, former senior officials, heroic Vietnamese mothers as well as foreign guests such as top legislators of Laos and Cambodia , and representatives from diplomatic missions.

NA General Secretary and head of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc said the ceremony affords the Vietnamese legislature a chance to review its achievements over the past 70 years while simultaneously encouraging the entire Party, people and armed forces to spread the national emulation campaign towards the upcoming 12th National Party Congress.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is due to deliver a keynote remark at the event, he said.

In the run-up to the event, the Vietnam Television in coordination with the NA Office and the People’s Committee of Tuyen Quang province will air a live exchange programme in Hanoi and Tuyen Quang, including short documentaries and dialogues with experts to give audiences an insight into the history of the Vietnamese NA.

On January 5 morning, the NA leaders will meet generations of former legislators attending the ceremony to listen to their suggestions and aspirations.

In evening the same day, a music show which will be broadcast live on the NA television channel will be held at the Hanoi Opera House.

Other activities include an exhibition of books and materials in Hanoi , meetings with former lawmakers and music performances nationwide.
