Asian-African Conference 2015 commences in Jakarta

Hanoi, April 22 (VNA) – The Asian-African Conference (AAC) 2015 opened in Jakarta, Indonesia on April 22 to promote “the spirit of Bandung” and boost economic development on both continents through strengthened South-South cooperation.

Attendants to the two-day conference include heads of government and state and prepresentatives from 109 countries and 25 international organisations worldwide.

President Truong Tan Sang will attend plenary sessions and bilateral meetings in Jakarta, the commemoration of the 60 th anniversary of the AAC and the launching ceremony of the Asia-Africa Monument in Bandung city.

In his opening speech, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that many challenges facing Asian and African countries have remained unaddressed since the first AAC 60 years ago.

Themed “Strengthening South-South cooperation to promote world peace and prosperity”, this year’s AAC is focusing its discussions on a number of key issues, ranging from the support for an independent Palestine to the creation of new economic cooperation models towards sustainable development in the two continents.

The meeting is expected to produce three main documents: the Bandung Message, Declaration of Re-invigorating New Asia-Africa Strategic Partnership and Declaration on Palestine.
