ASEAN foster cooperative ties with Italian locality

A delegation of ambassadors of Southeast Asian nations recently visited Parma province, Italy, to promote exchanges and cooperation as part of the work of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR).

During a working session with local authorities, Thai Ambassador Tana Weskosith, the ACR Chairman, highlighted potential for economic and trade cooperation between and ASEAN nations.

ASEAN businesses are interested in the region’s key sectors, such as agriculture, livestock, cosmetic chemistry, food processing, beverage, resort and tourism, Weskosith said.

For her part, Vice Mayor Nicoletta Paci of Parma city welcomed the delegation’s visit and pledged to boost cooperation between localities of the two sides.

The delegation, consisting of Ambassadors of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar, also visited local enterprises in tourism, medical tourism, agriculture produce and cosmetics.

At the visit to the Cosmoproject in Mezzani township in Parma, Director of the company, Primo Tortini, introduced the long-term strategy his company has developed in Southeast Asia, particularly in Thailand and Vietnam.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien highlighted the effectiveness of the visit, saying it helped enhance cooperation between Italy and ASEAN as well as each member nation of the bloc.

The event also presents a chance for the countries to establish suitable cooperation channels with Italian localities, Thien added.
