During my four years working and living in Mexico City, I do not remember all the Vietnamese delegations to Mexico, but I am sure that they all visited the ancient tower, offered flowers to the Monument of President Ho Chi Minh and were warmly received by Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, Senator and General Secretary of the Labour Party (PT) of Mexico who has a great love for Vietnam.

Ever since he was a student, he studied about Vietnam and supported the struggle for national liberation in this country. He actively participated in the students’ movements to protest against the aggressive war in Vietnam. Then, in any leadership position he has always supported Vietnam at all forums.

Under his direct guidance, the PT published some books about Vietnam, documents and writings of the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, including a book entitled “Selected Articles on the Politics of Ho Chi Minh” in Mexico and Latin America. He also directly introduced this book four times.
When talking with him, I was so astonished at his thorough knowledge about Vietnam. He remembers exactly every important historical period in Vietnam, the Doi moi (renewal) process and achievements obtained by Vietnam. He talked as if he was a Vietnamese leader.

Senator Alberto Anaya Gutierrez has visited Vietnam 12 times and during each visit he gave significant gifts to Vietnam, such as presenting 100 wheelchairs to the Vietnam Agent Orange/dioxin Association and presenting a variety of cactus to grow in some provinces in the southern area of Central Vietnam.

He is also the initiator of applying the method of Vietnam acupuncture to treatment in Mexico. All of his work simply originates from his great love for Vietnam.
