From July 3 to 5, 2012, at the invitation of Pany Yathotu, member of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Lao National Assembly Chairwoman, National Assembly Chairman and member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Communist Party Nguyen Sinh Hung led a high ranking delegation of Vietnam’s National Assembly on an official visit to Laos. The visit aimed at strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between two parties, two national assemblies and peoples of both countries.
After the official welcoming ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and his Lao counterpart Pany Yathotu chaired the talk between two national assemblies’ high ranking delegations.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that both countries were implementing effectively the signed agreement on economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation. The two nations also regularly exchange between high-ranking officials to develop the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation. National Assembly Chairman Hung suggested the two countries should pay more attention to cooperation in education and training and developing human resources; enhancing the awareness and strengthening the special relations between the two countries in economic, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation. Both sides should create favourable conditions for localities along the common border to co-operate, closely coordinate to implement previous commitments and reach a consensus at multilateral cooperation frameworks.

Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung highly appreciated results of the cooperation between the two national assemblies in bilateral and multilateral cooperation. He said that the two legislative bodies should sign a new agreement as a legal foundation to meet the demand of the development of each nation. Vietnam’s National Assembly would support Lao National Assembly in organizing successfully the 7th Asia – Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP-7) in October.
Lao National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotu praised this visit and considered it an important event, contributing to the success of the Vietnam – Laos Friendship Year 2012, celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 35th anniversary of signing the Vietnam – Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty. The visit also played an important role in reinforcing and fostering the bilateral traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and his Lao counterpart signed a cooperation agreement between the two national assemblies. It is a new cooperation agreement document based on the previous agreement which concludes requirements in new situations.
On the occasion, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party cum State President Chummany Sayasone and met with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thamavong. He also offered incense and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument in Vientiane.
