Vietnam’s Contributions to APEC 24

The 24th APEC High-level Week (APEC 24) themed “Quality Growth and Human Development” took place in Lima, Peru from November 14-20, 2016. The Vietnamese high-ranking delegation led by State President Tran Dai Quang made active contributions to the success of the summit.
The outstanding achievement of the summit is that the leaders of member economies affirmed a strong and timely message of their determination of promoting trade and investment liberalisation, quality growth and human development.  The APEC members also reached new progress in affiliation and regional connectivity. Notably, the summit approved two long-term directional documents of APEC in economic and service connectivity, including the Lima Declaration on Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) and the Services Competitiveness Roadmap.

The Vietnamese high-ranking delegation attended the 24th APEC High-level Week with a special position. State President Tran Dai Quang attended important sessions of the 24th APEC High-level Week, a high-level meeting of leaders of 12 TPP member states and an informal dialogue between APEC leaders with the Pacific Alliance. He also made active and outstanding contributions to the success of the summit.

At the meetings, the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation discussed major issues, stressing the need to forge sustainable and inclusive development, innovate structure, develop skills in the 21st century and improve labour productivity and competitiveness, especially for the micro, small and medium-sized businesses. These are crucial issues to bolster the firm foundation for quality and sustainable growth. Vietnam also contributed to the conclusion of strategic research on the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area, opening up a development space for businesses and Vietnam’s economy when the FTAAP is realised.

As the host of APEC 2017, Vietnam gave ideas on orientations for APEC after 2020 through the “Asia-Pacific partnership for sustainable and inclusive development in the 21st century.”

On the occasion, Vietnam introduced APEC 2017 with the theme of  “Creating New Dynamism and Fostering a Shared Future” hosted by Vietnam that received high praise and strong support from members. Many activities and large events will be held in cities and provinces of Vietnam. The 25thAPEC High-level Week will take place from November 10-11, 2017 in the Da Nang - a dynamic and leading economic centre in Vietnam.
