Vietnam wins two int’l science and engineering awards

Hanoi, May 20 (VNA) – Twelve Vietnamese high-school students who entered the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2015 (Intel ISEF) in the United States arrived back in Vietnam on May 19, bringing with them two awards.

A project proposing ways in which to improve the quality and yield of shrimp, penned by two students from the High School for Gifted Students at the Hanoi University of Science, won the fourth-place award in the competition’s Microbiology category.

The American Psychological Association awarded students of Lam Son High School for the Gifted in central Thanh Hoa province with the third place prize for their project “ Intranasal Insulin Enhances Spatial Memory and Cognitive Adjustment”.

Vietnam is among 36 countries and territories worldwide whose students have received awards this year.

The Intel ISEF, a programme run by the Society for Science & the Public (SSP), is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.

Millions of students worldwide compete each year in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in SSP-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend Intel ISEF.

Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific minds, showcasing their talent on an international stage, where doctoral level scientists review and judge their work.

Held from May 9-15, this year’s competition brought together more than 1,700 high-school students from 76 countries and territories across the globe.
