Vietnam seeks solutions to Cambodian extremists

Long An, July 2 (VNA)- Chairman of the People’s Committee of Long An province Do Huu Lam sent a diplomatic note on July 2 concerning recent violent actions by Cambodian extremists in the Vietnamese locality to Governor of Svay Rieng province of Cambodia Chieng Om.

The note requested Cambodia’s authorised agencies have satisfactory solutions to the case.

The Cambodian side was also asked to intensify control and management in order to prevent similar cases from occurring, which would affect the progress of border delimitation between the two countries and the sound relationship between the two localities.

The incident happened on June 26, when a group of about 250 Cambodians, including a number of parliament members from the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), encroached into the area of border marker No. 203 in Long An province. Vietnamese relevant forces and locals stopped the group and explained their wrongful act, but some of the extremists attacked and injured seven people.
