Vietnam, Italy talk cooperation in culture, education

Rome, May 13 (VNA) – Le Nhu Tien, deputy head of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, had a meeting with a delegation from the Italian Parliament’s Chambers of Deputies’ Commission for Culture, Science and Education in Rome on May 12.

Tien, who led a NA delegation to pay a working visit to Italy, appreciated Italy’s experience in culture, education and training and said that Vietnam could learn from this and apply the knowledge to relevant sectors in line with Vietnam’s own circumstances.

He said he hopes for closer cooperation in the field between the two national assemblies.

Flavia Nardelli Piccoli, acting chairwoman of the commission, spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic development over recent years, especially in poverty alleviation, education and creating jobs for young people.

According to Piccoli, the periodical exchange of leaders and commissions from the two legislative agencies has contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation at governmental level, especially in culture and education.

The two sides also discussed experience lawmaking to preserve cultural heritage and to improve education and vocational training for young people.

Italian MPs reaffirmed their support to the Italian central and local governments to implement preservation projects in Vietnam and share managerial experience in sustainable tourism development.

The Italian side welcomed cooperation in tertiary education and said that an increasing number of Vietnamese students in Italy will be an asset for future cooperation and friendly relations.

Vietnam and Italy have had 72 education projects and around 1,000 Vietnamese undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying in Italy.
