Vietnam Customs in charge of various APEC events this year

Hanoi, January 20 (VNA) – The General Department of Vietnam Customs (Vietnam Customs) plans to organise many activities within the framework of the APEC Committee on Trade and Investment (CTI) in 2017.

It will host the first meeting of the APEC Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) on the sidelines of the first senior officials’ meeting (SOM) and the second SCCP meeting on the fringe of SOM3 and relevant activities, respectively held in Nha Trang city from February 20-23 and Ho Chi Minh City from August 15-28.

Vietnam Customs will also hold a conference between the customs sector and enterprises and co-chair a meeting of the Expert Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade, a meeting of the APEC Alliance for Supply Chain Connectivity, and workshops on the single-window system and trade facilitation.

APEC Vietnam 2017, themed “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”, aims to promote sustainable, creative and inclusive growth, strengthen economic connectivity and regional integration, while facilitating micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises through enhancing their innovation and engagement in global value chains.

The CTI-selected priorities for the APEC year include ensuring trade security in supply chain connections, which stresses tackling smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeits. Another priority is trade facilitation through completing the single-window system.

Established in 1989, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the US and Vietnam.

2017 is the second time Vietnam has hosted APEC activities after 2006.
