Vietnam, Australia to increase work exchanges, joint training

Hanoi, September 8 (VNA) – Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defence Minister, held a meeting with Brigadier John Mackenzie from the International Policy Division of the Australian Department of Defence in Hanoi on September 8.

Sen. Lt. Gen. Vinh spoke highly of the working groups set up between the Vietnamese and Australian armies to cooperate on peace keeping, counter-terrorism, personnel training, and maritime safety.

He suggested the two sides increase the exchange of high-ranking delegations and share their experience in joining the United Nations peace-keeping forces, adding that they should also intensify staff training and collaborate in bilateral and multilateral forums.

For his part, Mackenzie said Australia will foster defence cooperation with Vietnam to train officers, address the consequences of unexploded ordnances and tackle other issues of mutual concern, thus enhancing the friendship between the two armies and peoples.
