Vietnam attends ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting

Nay Pyi Taw, May 22 (VNA) – Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen led a Vietnamese delegation to the 23 rd ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting (ALMM 23) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from May 20-22.

The ministers from 10 member nations scrutinised the implementation of a master plan on building the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Work Programme (ALM-WP) for the 2010-2015 period, and cooperation in improving the competitiveness of the regional workforce.

To create a competitive workforce for the ASEAN Community expected to be formed in 2015, the participants agreed to increase cooperation in the field and called on the member nations to devise strategies to promote the quality of their own human resources.

They asked senior labour officials to define directions for enhancing labour collaboration from 2015, which will aim at better life quality and sustainable jobs for all people.

Concluding ALMM 23, the ministers issued a joint statement and agreed that Laos will the host of the 24 th event in 2016.

On the fringes of the meeting, Vietnamese Minister Chuyen met with the head of the Lao delegation to discuss ways to boost labour cooperation between the two countries.
