Regional jewelry traders seek to beef up cooperation

Hanoi, November 7 (VNA) – The fifth ASEAN+8 Gems & Jewelry Presidents’ Summit took place in Ho Chi Minh City on November 5-6.

This was the first time the Vietnam Gemstone Jewelry and Art Craft Association (VGJA) has hosted the event.

Participants discussed measures to boost cooperation and investment in the field in order to develop the intra-bloc economy and cultural exchanges.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said Vietnam has a lot of potentials to develop the gemstone and jewelry industry and has become a destination for foreign investors operating in this field and other economic sectors.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will create the best conditions for foreign investors to explore cooperation opportunities and do business in the country for mutual benefits.

On the sidelines of the summit, a range of activities was held, including a fashion and jewelry show and an auction of jewelry products.

According to the VGJA, nearly 70 tonnes of gold are traded in Vietnam each year, 18.5 percent of which are jewelry gold.
