Programme promotes family’s role in domestic violence prevention

Hanoi, November 22 (VNA) – The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Women’s Union agreed to implement aprogramme to enhance the role of families in preventing domestic violence.

The deal was signed by Minister Nguyen NgocThien and President of the Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha in Hanoi on November 21.

The programme will be piloted in sixprovinces and cities across the nation, namely Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Quang Binh,Dak Lak, Tien Giang and HCM City.

It aims to enhance awareness of the role ofthe family in educating attitudes, lifestyles and behaviours among familymembers, thus preventing domestic violence.

It is also expected to help reduce thenumber of cases and the seriousness of domestic violence in the localitieswhile utilising the resources of the two sectors to build happy families.

Under the programme, legal documents will becompleted to help women build happy families, with a focus on domestic violenceprevention and family-based education.

The two sides will strengthen communicationsto improve the quality of family relationships and organise activitiesincluding Vietnam Family Day (June 28), The NationalAction Month against Domestic Violence in response to theInternational Day of Happiness (March 20), and International Day for theElimination of Violence against Women (November 25).

Training courses will be held to buildcapacity for local staff and community members involved in domestic violenceprevention and control.

Studies will also be conducted to improvefamily-based education in the coming years.
