President leaves for State visit to Germany

Hanoi, November 24 (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang and his spouse left Hanoi on November 24 for a State visit to Germany at the invitation of German President Joachim Gauck.

Sang’s visit, the first ever made by a Vietnamese President to Germany since the country’s unification, is concurrent with the 40 th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

President Sang’s entourage includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Vuong Dinh Hue, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan and Transport Minister Dinh La Thang, among others.

Over the past five years, Germany has been one of Vietnam’s leading trade partners in the European Union, accounting for 20 percent of Vietnamese exports to the market.

The investment flow from the country to Vietnam has also increased 70 percent to 1.38 billion USD in 2015 from 824 million USD in 2010.

Among the prominent ongoing joint projects are the German House, Metro line 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Vietnam-Germany University.

More than 300 German businesses are smoothly operating in Vietnam.
