PM Dung calls for strong army to respond to new challenges

Hanoi, July 1 (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called for a strong army able to respond to emerging challenges presented by today’s increasingly complicated, rapidly changing and unpredictable world.

Addressing the 9th all-army patriotic emulation movement congress held in Hanoi on July 1, PM Dung said the fluctuating and tense situation in the region and world posed tremendous challenges to building and protecting the country.

The PM hoped the army would carry on its glorious tradition and build a modern, disciplined and seasoned army that is unwaveringly loyal to the nation, the constitution and the leadership of the Party and State.

The PM asked every official and soldier in the army to unite and work together to protect national independence and defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The whole army must continually make consistent efforts to maintain a peaceful, stable and cooperative environment to create favourable conditions for the country’s construction and development process.

Officers and soldiers must display innovative, disciplined, pioneering, honest and anti-corruption spirits under any circumstances, he added.

The PM believed the patriotic emulation movement would become a tremendous source of encouragement to all soldiers and officials to accomplish greater achievements and contribute to the country’s protection and construction process.

The 9th all-army patriotic emulation movement congress is an occasion to review the movement from 2010-2015 and define goals and missions for the 2015-2020 period.

In the past five years, 51 units and individuals were awarded the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces and Labour Hero of the Renewal Era titles.

In addition, 5,800 units and individuals were presented with Orders of all classes and 1,000 units were awarded with the Government’s Emulation Flag.
