NA Standing Committee debates draft maritime, island resources law

Hanoi, September 26 (VNA) – The 31 st session of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee continued on September 26 with a focus on a draft law on maritime and island resources and environments.

Members of the committee agreed on the need to promulgate the law, which will create a comprehensive legal basis to coordinate the management, exploitation and use of maritime and island resources and environments.

They highlighted the importance of carefully managing and using maritime and island resources to serve industrialisation and modernisation, sustainable socio-economic development, and national security and defence.

A number of participants said the draft, which comprises 10 chapters and 76 articles, needs to address the current overlapping management and exploitation of resources, harmonise the interests of parties involved in resources management and exploitation, and supplement regulations on newly-arising issues.

They also told the drafting board to clarify certain concepts in the bill and carefully compare its content to relevant laws in order to ensure the consistency of the legal system.
