Conference enhances ethnic affair management

Thanh Hoa, November 13 (VNA) – Discussions at a conference on November 12 in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa focused on improving State management of ethnic affairs.

The event, organised by the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, aims to review the three-year implementation of the ethnic affairs strategy until 2020 and the Prime Minister’s Instruction No.28/CT-TTg on the State’s management of ethnic work.

According to the Committee’s reports, under the strategy, a wide range of activities in many localities across the country to reduce poverty and improve living conditions for ethnic minorities.

Ethnic work has also been included in the national target programme on poverty reduction. Various resources have been mobilised to help improve the living conditions of ethnic minorities in disadvantaged areas.

In order to implement the PM’s instruction, a number of communication campaigns have been conducted in provinces and cities to raise ethnic communities’ awareness of relevant policies and incentives from the Party and State.

Localities have reviewed the implementation of ethnic affairs policies in the 2011-2015 period, thus perfecting mechanisms, policies and programmes for 2016-2020.

Media and press agencies have developed detailed plans and diverse activities to enhance the entire political system’s awareness of the important role ethnic work and policies play in socio-economic development.

During the event, participants suggested that ministries and sectors continue working closely with the Committee to review policies for ethnic minorities and their progress.

Localities should accelerate the implementation of approved programmes and projects, while supervision of the work should be strengthened to ensure poverty reduction efforts are effective in disadvantaged areas.
