ASEAN+3 rice reserve council gathers in Hanoi

Hanoi, May 29 (VNA) – The ASEAN plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) Council convened its second meeting in Hanoi on May 29.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Le Quoc Doanh, spoke highly of APTERR activities, which have provided swift relief aid for countries hit by disasters, including the Philippines and Laos.

Ensuring food security, especially in emergency circumstances, requires joint efforts from all regional nations, Doanh said.

During the meeting, the council focused on discussing financial management procedures and regulations as well as coordination mechanisms between APTERR and the ASEAN Integrated Food Security Framework.

APTERR was established in 2012 with the participation of the 10 ASEAN member countries and Japan, the Republic of Korea and China. It aims to deal with food shortages caused by natural disasters or man-made calamities through the provision of food assistance and nutrition improvement programmes to people in need.
