ASEAN unifies aviation regulations

ASEAN aviation officials gathered in Yangon, Myanmar on May 7 to make aviation regulations and laws uniformity in the region as part of efforts to create an ASEAN single aviation market.

The discussion formed part of the ongoing 29th meeting of the ASEAN air transport working group, which began on May 6, with the participation of representatives from ASEAN and its dialogue partners namely China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India and the EU.

To support the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community, the regional authorities are working hard to build the ASEAN single aviation market, with the adoption of the economic and technical work plan 2014-15, said an official from the Department of Civil Aviation of Myanmar.

Founded in 1967, ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The association has set December 31, 2015 for the realisation of its Economic Community, which will serve as a venue for free flows of goods, services, skilled labour, capital and investment.
